New or used food truck: what to check before you buy

Many people look for a used food truck on classified sites because the price looks lower. But a ready-made truck may not fit your menu, and refitting it later gets expensive. Here is what to check before buying (general recommendations).

What to check in a used truck

  • Body — rust, welds, cracks, whether the roof leaks
  • Chassis and axles — wheels, brakes, the condition of the hitch
  • Electrics — wiring, sockets, grounding and whether the power is enough
  • Ventilation and gas — smells, extraction, safety of gas connections
  • Windows and awning — whether they open and close properly
  • Interior — insulation, floor, furniture and equipment condition
  • Documents — proof of ownership and trailer registration

Hidden costs

  • The truck does not suit your menu — equipment and layout must change
  • Someone else's branding — repainting or refreshing
  • Replacing worn equipment
  • Terms with the seller (warranty and returns) may not be agreed in writing

Why a new made-to-order truck is worth considering

  • It is built for your menu and your location
  • Color and branding are yours from the start — you can try your logo on the truck in advance
  • You can see the production and the factory yourself
  • The timeline is known in advance: about 20 to 60 days depending on the model

To compare options by price accurately, first define your menu and location. A new truck across the whole range costs roughly from $3,000 to $30,000. We give the exact price after a consultation.
